Gifted Education in HTYC
Our Mission
HTYC is committed to providing quality education that uncovers and develops every student’s potential. We promote “Gifted Education for All” through structured programmes and diverse learning experiences that foster academic excellence, creativity, and leadership.
Our Strategies for Catering for Learner Diversity
We adopt four key strategies to support student diversity: whole-class teaching, pull-out programmes, off-site activities, and competitions. These ensure all students benefit from enrichment, based on their interests, abilities, and learning needs.
Our Four Operation Strategies of Gifted Education at HTYC
General Picture for measures to cater for learner diversities at HTYC:
I. School-Based Whole Class Learning and Teaching
We integrate gifted education elements—higher-order thinking, creativity, and social competence—into daily lessons. Through differentiated instruction, performance grouping, and interactive activities, students engage actively and make meaningful academic progress.
II. School-Based Pull-Out Programmes
Gifted students join enrichment programmes such as IT innovation, debate, writing, and mathematics training. These programmes provide targeted support and challenge students to explore advanced knowledge beyond the standard curriculum.
III. Off-site Programmes and Support
We collaborate with the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) and external partners to offer students advanced learning opportunities. Selected students benefit from specialized training in humanities, STEM, and leadership.
IV. Participations in Territory-wide Competitions
HTYC students are encouraged to join local and international competitions in academics, technology, arts, and more. These platforms help them apply their knowledge, gain exposure, and develop confidence and resilience.
Cater for Learners with Different Needs and at Different Stages
From S1 orientation to NSS preparation and academic support groups, we provide programmes tailored to different age groups and ability levels. These initiatives help students adapt and thrive at each stage.
(a) S1 Orientation Program for S1 students to equip them with skills in secondary school life.
(b) NSS Preparation Program for S3 students to equip them with senior level study skills
(c) Supportive Groups for underachievers to enhance their academic results
APEX Team Subsidy Scheme
Our APEX Scheme identifies and supports outstanding students in academics, leadership, arts, and sports. With subsidies and mentorship, they gain access to elite programmes that cultivate their talents and broaden their vision.
The “Stars” system—Faith, Hope, Love, Grace, Tenacity, Excellence, and Giftedness—represents our core values. These awards encourage students to believe in themselves, persevere through challenges, and strive for personal and academic excellence.
