HTYC Students and iGEM HongKong-JSS Team Interviewed on RTHK's "Under the Sun"
11-01-2026Last October, HTYC joined forces with four other secondary schools—Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School, Po Leung Kuk Celine Ho Yam Tong College, Pentecostal School, and Madam Lau Kam Lung Secondary School of MFBM—to form the joint-school team "HongKong-JSS" to participate in the iGEM competition in Paris, France.
By combining synthetic biology with AI detection, the team developed "Remedix," a low-cost, high-efficiency device designed to detect and degrade specific water-borne pharmaceutical pollutants, safeguarding public health and environmental safety. The team not only secured a Gold Medal for the third consecutive year but was also nominated once again for the "Best Hardware" award in the High School Division.
Recently, HTYC teachers and students from the team were invited for an interview on the RTHK Radio 1 programme "Under the Sun." They shared their design concepts, research process, and insights gained from the international competition. The interview aired on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
