Exploring the Frontiers of Chemical Testing: Experiential Learning in Hong Kong’s Analytical Industry
07-07-2026Our Chemistry Department organized experiential learning visits to two leading testing and certification organizations in Hong Kong: the CMA Testing and Certification Laboratories (CMA檢定中心) and Bureau Veritas (必維國際檢驗集團). Participating students were given an invaluable opportunity to step inside professional laboratory facilities.
Through guided tours and interactive sessions, students gained deep insights into the operations of Hong Kong’s thriving testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) sector. They observed how advanced analytical equipment and core chemical concepts—such as volumetric analysis, separation techniques, and instrument-based spectroscopy—are applied to real-world industrial standards, product safety testing, and environmental compliance.
The visits bridged classroom theory with authentic industry practices, broadening students' perspectives on career pathways in analytical chemistry and scientific research. Our students learned a great deal from these eye-opening visits, coming away with heightened enthusiasm and a clearer understanding of how chemistry powers modern industry!
